I have searched the posts, and have seen this a couple times, but have not seen instructions on how to overcome it.
Is there a way to allow access to the bin to ekr conversion for those of us with an EK1 device who are purchasing a sxth bundle?

SXTH will give you EKE file format for bundle.
Please ask them to check it

for those that might run into this in the future, there is a zipped folder in the same folder the bin filed are found. just unzip that folder to find your eke files
